Honor, and Remember

The history of Azle rests here.
Ash Creek Cemetery is a historic burial ground deeply intertwined with the fabric of Azle, Texas. Established in 1871 through the generous donations of Dr. James Azle Steward and John Giles Reynolds, the cemetery has served as the final resting place for generations of community members
More than just a burial site, Ash Creek Cemetery has been a central part of Azle’s identity. It reflects the town’s growth and evolution, bearing witness to the lives of pioneers, families, and veterans who shaped the community. The cemetery’s historical significance was recognized in 1985 when it was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
Today, Ash Creek Cemetery continues to be a place of remembrance and reverence, preserving the stories of those who came before and fostering a connection between the past and present of Azle.

The Azle Cemetery Association
Established in 1871 with land donations from early settlers, the Ash Creek Cemetery (later Azle Cemetery) initially lacked formal records and upkeep. The Azle Cemetery Association, formed in 1922, formalized record-keeping and maintenance, growing the cemetery to 17 acres with over 4,000 graves through land acquisition and the establishment of a perpetual care foundation.
